2. "Like"ing someone's post on Facebook means that I am wanting to interact with that post. By interaction, I am saying that I agree with the content of the post or that I enjoy the image/video. I am affirming the user of that post.
3. Yes, I feel that it helps me connect and also discover. I am able to connect with friends I have now based off likes that we share in common. It allows me to join into a community that likes the same things I do. It also helps me to discover and learn about new things and new people. It helps me to see things I may never have noticed.
4. Influencer to me is someone that creates a response in another person. The response is key to being an influencer. You can be a bad influence or a good influence. Either way, you are making people do SOMETHING. In regards to social media and web, influencers are those that have a strong presence on their communities and are able to make fans/viewers react and interact.
5. Oreo was aware with the current issue at the time of equality for marriage. To position themselves inside this conversation, they posted a picture of an Oreo that was multi-colored and was in support of equality. This one photo had millions of likes and interactions and was popular and viral across the internet.
6. I believe companies are using social media to advertise in multiple and unlimited ways. Companies are now able to connect more easily and closely with their target audience. They are able to advertise to exactly what appeals to their consumers. Companies can post videos and images that consumers will instantly see on their news feeds. It no longer takes days and months of production, instead it only takes a short minute to post about a new product through a tweet.
7. Marketers are able to are able to easily advertise to what consumers want to see through social media. They no longer make an ad hoping it grabs attention. Instead they are partnering with the consumer to create products that are wanted. Brands are able to put themselves inside the conversation of consumers and become part of their routine life.
8. Celebrities are able to promote their career and reach by continually selling themselves in multiple channels. They can connect themselves to brand and products to establish their identities. They can instantly connect with their fans and form actual relationships.
9. Corporate sponsorship occurs when a brand will supply an individual with cash or their products. They do this to promote their image through this individual in hopes that they expose themselves to consumers. It happens a lot with skaterboarders and bmx participants. Brands will supply them with clothes and shoes that have their brand on them.
10. I think marketers are crossing the line back and forth between being transparent and invisible. In some ways, marketers are more clear on their advertising when using technology. Instead of trying to create advertisement to mask their products and instead draw the consumer in through colors and flashy images, they are having to be much more direct. Ads on social media have become a lot more simpler. At times though, marketers are being invisible when they build communities around a product. They are communicating that they want to interact with their audience, but they are also using their audience to market their products.
11. Social Media is like hunger games because there's a metaphorical arena where people must like you to get sponsored. If you have influence and people are attracted to you, advertising will also do the same. Gamemasters are watching everything going on to see where people are being drawn to and what they interact with the most.
Jeremy, you made some interesting points on #10. I looked at it a little differently than you did, but I certainly like the way you took the question. I looked at it as the marketers acting in invisible measures to get information on us as consumers, but I never really thought about their advertisements themselves. Very interesting points!
ReplyDeleteJermery, I like how you used the word "discover" in your response to #3. It gives a little more weight to the idea of mindlessly websurfing. It gives that concept purpose, one of discovery.
