Blog Assignment 5

Online marketing and traditional marketing can vary in many ways. Online marketing, or viral, is the tools and techniques used through the internet to market to consumers. Viral marketing has seemed to have taken over for most companies to reach the current generation and society that is growing up. Online marketing is allowing for the relationship between consumers and marketers become stronger. By this, I mean that consumers are able to interact and communicate with marketers more effectively and immediately. With this, marketers are able to tailor their advertising to what the consumer is more interested in. Marketers are able to create advertisement that consumers actually want to see. They are able to directly customize advertising to what each individual consumer. Cookies are able to be collected from consumers history and web browsing that allows marketers to know what their consumers like and where to find them. Because of these cookies, marketers are able to post advertisement on a youtube video of mountain dew. They can adjust systems to direct these advertisements to people who have expressed interest in mountain dew and the brand. Also, consumers are able to partake in sharing the advertisement. Through word of mouth and other channels, consumers can share online the advertisement with friends and families. Consumers also can create their own advertisement that the marketers are able to use. In contrast, traditional marketing is slowly declining because of the wide reach that it can only hit. Traditional marketing is like a shotgun that sprays out many shots in random directions. Online marketing is more like a rifle that can be pin pointed and aimed at one target to make a successful shot. Traditional marketing is more seen as a broad approach to advertisement to target a broad audience.

Blog Assignment 4

Fair use is using copyrighted material in a different form for a transformative purpose. Transformative means to add a new expression or meaning to the original purpose of the work. Usually this comes as criticism or parody of the copyrighted work. Most times it is easy to distinguish the difference. In Girl Talk's case, it blurs the line. The artist uses songs from other musicians and mashes them together to make a new song all together. He does not distort the original work that much, but instead picks and chooses which lines to use. He is not offering criticism of the work through this or even arranging it in a sense which could be considered parody. I believe it is in the gray area of what has been established as fair use. Artists like Girl Talk who follow his suit usually are very polarizing in terms of fair use. They usually stick to parodying the original work. Many famous youtube users have become well known for their ability to quickly parody new songs that come out. In the video below, this user made himself known through parodies. His videos have no meaning and usually make no sense at all. He has another artist remake the song into an instrumental that sounds very similar to the original. I believe this type of fair use is easier to be accepted because of how clear it is on parodying the copyrighted work. Girl Talk though falls into more controversy because of how he takes whole sound bites from original works.

Blog Assignment 3

Interactivity

The article I chose was: Importance of Web Interactivity: Tips and Examples

It is an article that helps spread the awareness on the importance of interactivity and how to effectively do this. It states that websites are meant to communicate to people across the world, because of this, websites should be set up in a way that allows users to interact with it in the most efficient and effective way.

I believe this has to do with internet communication because it is keying in on one of the most important features in interactivity. Communication should be made functional and flexibility. Interactivity allows the user to feel comfortable and enjoy the environment they are in. With interactivity, we can measure it by "clicks" or "movements" that are able to be tracked by databases. Sites can track what users click on and enjoy interacting with. Also, sites can have comment sections to allow users to submit changes and improvement. Measurement can also come from share buttons which allow users to share the website on their social media platforms.

Blog Assignment 2

I agree the most with Reed's law.

It states,  "The value of a network increases dramatically when people form subgroups for collaboration and sharing."

I have seen this play out in so many areas of my life. Mostly with popular sayings, people, and actions. All these things in our society are instantly posted online and can go viral in seconds. One example we came up with in class was the Alex from Target scenario. One user posted a picture of a target cashier that was then reposted by other friends of the users. From there, multiple users thought the cashier was attractive and interacted with the post. Soon, the picture had been posted all across the internet. Now, the cashier is famous and has been on many talk shows. Because of twitter, it allows multiple users that are not close to each other become connected. With the power of collaboration and sharing, a couple users can push a post to become viral. If the sharing is effective and channeled clearly, all of social media can be reached.

I believe people will continue to deliver information through the internet in some fashion. I think most media outlets such as magazines, newspapers, television, and radio are seeing the power of internet. They are still able to survive, but all of them rely on the internet for sending their messages as well. The internet is becoming the sole top spot for information to be delivered and received.  What I believe will continue changing is the medium in which we access the internet. Today, we have smart phones, tablets, and laptops. In five years, it is impossible to guess the technology we will have. Most of it could be holograms, or even chips that allow us to access the internet with our mind. The possibilities are endless on what science can come up with.

Generation Like

1. Engagement - It is the number of people interacted with a product. From the documentary, the company, The Audience, had statistical systems to measure how many people were interacting with their client's products.

Interaction - It is any form of response. In the documentary, The Hunger Games movies allowed its fans to interact with the cast and each other through movie discussion and contests.

Reach - This is the number of people exposed to something. In the documentary, The Audience, had a client from the show, Vampire Diaries. This client also advertised Dove soap. Through this partnership, the client's reach went further because it also connect with people who use Dove soap.

Target - It is the intended audience for something. For youtube, the popular users target a certain audience that has the same interests and views as them.

2. "Like"ing someone's post on Facebook means that I am wanting to interact with that post. By interaction, I am saying that I agree with the content of the post or that I enjoy the image/video. I am affirming the user of that post.

3. Yes, I feel that it helps me connect and also discover. I am able to connect with friends I have now based off likes that we share in common. It allows me to join into a community that likes the same things I do. It also helps me to discover and learn about new things and new people. It helps me to see things I may never have noticed.

4. Influencer to me is someone that creates a response in another person. The response is key to being an influencer. You can be a bad influence or a good influence. Either way, you are making people do SOMETHING. In regards to social media and web, influencers are those that have a strong presence on their communities and are able to make fans/viewers react and interact.

5. Oreo was aware with the current issue at the time of equality for marriage. To position themselves inside this conversation, they posted a picture of an Oreo that was multi-colored and was in support of equality. This one photo had millions of likes and interactions and was popular and viral across the internet.

6. I believe companies are using social media to advertise in multiple and unlimited ways. Companies are now able to connect more easily and closely with their target audience. They are able to advertise to exactly what appeals to their consumers. Companies can post videos and images that consumers will instantly see on their news feeds. It no longer takes days and months of production, instead it only takes a short minute to post about a new product through a tweet.

7. Marketers are able to are able to easily advertise to what consumers want to see through social media. They no longer make an ad hoping it grabs attention. Instead they are partnering with the consumer to create products that are wanted. Brands are able to put themselves inside the conversation of consumers and become part of their routine life.

8. Celebrities are able to promote their career and reach by continually selling themselves in multiple channels. They can connect themselves to brand and products to establish their identities. They can instantly connect with their fans and form actual relationships.

9. Corporate sponsorship occurs when a brand will supply an individual with cash or their products. They do this to promote their image through this individual in hopes that they expose themselves to consumers. It happens a lot with skaterboarders and bmx participants. Brands will supply them with clothes and shoes that have their brand on them.

10. I think marketers are crossing the line back and forth between being transparent and invisible. In some ways, marketers are more clear on their advertising when using technology. Instead of trying to create advertisement to mask their products and instead draw the consumer in through colors and flashy images, they are having to be much more direct. Ads on social media have become a lot more simpler. At times though, marketers are being invisible when they build communities around a product. They are communicating that they want to interact with their audience, but they are also using their audience to market their products.

11. Social Media is like hunger games because there's a metaphorical arena where people must like you to get sponsored. If you have influence and people are attracted to you, advertising will also do the same. Gamemasters are watching everything going on to see where people are being drawn to and what they interact with the most.
